The temple is significant as a Shiva temple where Lord Brahmapureeswarar is worshipped as a Swayambhu Lingam. It is especially known for the separate shrine of Lord Brahma and for the temple tradition that Brahma worshipped twelve Shiva Lingams here. According to the temple’s Sthala Purana tradition, Lord Brahma worshipped Lord Shiva at this place after being humbled for his pride. The tradition says Brahma worshipped twelve Shiva Lingams here and received Shiva’s grace, and the temple is therefore associated with devotees praying for a favourable change in destiny. This is a religious tradition of the temple and not a historical claim.
