⭐Temple Significance

The temple is one of the six sacred Arupadai Veedu shrines of Lord Murugan and is a major Murugan pilgrimage centre in Tamil Nadu. It is widely known for worship of Lord Murugan as Dhandayuthapani Swamy, for the Palani Panchamirtham offering, and for large festival gatherings during Thaipusam.

🕉️Mythology

Temple tradition connects Palani with the well-known Murugan legend of the divine fruit of wisdom: after Lord Ganesha received the fruit from Shiva and Parvati, Murugan withdrew to Palani, where he is worshipped in an ascetic form. The name Palani is traditionally linked with the phrase “Pazham Nee”, meaning “You are the fruit”. Another temple tradition associates the shrine with Siddhar Bogar, who is believed by devotees to have made the main image using navapashanam. These accounts belong to temple mythology and religious tradition.
